Nicolas’s talk will cover an introduction to Bitcoin, based on anecdotes from the 300,000+ miles he travelled last year, and bringing the future of money firmly into focus. He will provide the audience with a non-technical overview of the concept, sharing real-world scenarios of how it’s addressing problems that traditional payment systems and networks simply cannot, including remittances, micro-transactions and more.

What one thing do you hope the Canary Wharf and Tower Hamlets audience will take away from your talk?
The one thing I hope the audience captures from my talk is the incredible potential of bringing billions of people into the Internet’s economic sphere of influence through digital money.
What’s the most game-changing new trend in your industry/profession right now?
The invention of Bitcoin and Block Chain technology is game-changing. It will be as important to the democratization of data as Gutenberg’s press was to the spread of knowledge.
What’s your vision for the future?
My vision is to completely reimagine how the world transacts. For the first time in the history of the world we have a tool that allows, anyone, regardless of their origin, skin color or gender to financially transact with anyone else, anywhere in the world, basically for free. Basically, we can replace a bank with an App. So right now, I’m focused on helping Bitcoin be as successful as possible. It’s relevant to mention though that Bitcoin as a currency is just the first application of many that will be based on block chain technology. In the not-to-distant future we’ll be able to massively improve everything from governance, to voting, to stock issuance, insurance, notary services, property right management and more. Today all these areas are managed by deeply inefficient intermediaries and bureaucracies that can all be replaced with technology and applications. The magnitude of this innovation cannot be understated.
When and/or how did you figure out who/what you wanted to work with?
I’ve had a very international upbringing that fused with my passions for entrepreneurship, education, technology, economics and politics. I first learned about Bitcoin while fishing for flounders in the Long Island sound with my friend. We were bobbing up and down in a small aluminum raft. I wasn’t convinced right away but interesting ideas have powerful grips. As soon as I experimented with Bitcoin for the first time I realized how transformative it could be. From that moment on I’ve been hooked.
